ALAN CARR CLAIMS QUEEN ELIZABETH POSED HILARIOUS QUESTION TO MEGASTARS IN AWKWARD MOMENT

Alan Carr has claimed that Queen Elizabeth once posed a hilarious question to a megastar pop group in a "showbiz" moment at The Royal Variety Performance. In a recent instalment of his travel-themed Life's a Beach podcast (December 8), the Celebrity Traitors winner was joined by Catchphrase host Stephen Mulhern for a chat, in which the pair swapped stories about the Royal Family.

Stephen described a moment when he met the late Diana, Princess of Wales, when he was just 17-years-old, and performed a magic trick for her, claiming that the "amazing" and "lovely" princess also signed a card for him.

The comedian admitted that he's "quite a big royalist", which led Deal or No Deal presenter Stephen to ask him how many times he’d been involved in The Royal Variety Performance, to which Alan confirmed that he'd attended three in total.

He went on to share an amusing anecdote about the late Queen Elizabeth involving what sounded like a slightly toe-curling encounter with ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ hitmakers One Direction.

Alan, when asked if if he still gets "nervous" at the shows, said: "Oh, you do get nervous when you do them like that, but then I remember the late Queen when she was there, and, you know, I don't…she was just like that, smiling at me, and then she said to One Direction, 'What do you do?'.

"Well, you've just seen them half hour ago. They were heading the bill! I mean, 'What do you do?' I thought, 'Well, that's showbiz!'"

It wouldn’t be the first time that the former monarch has made us smile, however. The former monarch also showed off her acting skills when she was filmed enjoying tea with Paddington Bear as part of a sketch for her Platinum Jubilee.

In the heartwarming segment, Paddington offered the late Queen a marmalade sandwich (which had been stashed under his iconic red hat), noting how he always kept one for "emergencies".

"So do I", the Queen responded, as she opened up her famous handbag and took the snack out. In another amusing moment during a charity event at the Eden Project in Cornwall, the Queen decided to cut a cake with a ceremonial sword.

A volunteer pointed out to her that a knife was available for the task, but the Queen simply replied: "I know there is", explaining that the sword was "more unusual", reports the BBC.

In 2022, body language expert Judi James weighed in on the Paddington sketch in an exclusive chat with the Express.

She noted that the moment showed "her fun side and her ability to perform and to make others laugh".

In further comments about the late monarch's sense of humour, she added: "Her body language showed a woman who knew how to deliver a comedy line rather than someone who has just been given a script."
