Looking back on Natalie Portman’s best and worst movies

Incredibly, A-list actress Natalie Portman made her film debut over 25 years ago. Seemingly forever the picture of youth, she was indeed just in her early teens when she got her start in acting. Yet the now-wife and mother of two is turning 42 this year, and she’s got a vast body of work to show for her time in Hollywood. That’s not always a good thing. For every ‘Black Swan,’ Oscar-winning performance, there seems to be a 'No Strings Attached' in response. It’s happened often enough that it deserves a thorough lookover. Thanks to data collected by Metacritic, we can do exactly that. The website ranks films by two categories: critics' scores, which are out of 100, and users' scores, which are out of 10. It’s a live ranking, with scores changing somewhat regularly, so there’s no point in defining a top 10 or 20 films based on scores. Instead, we’ve curated a list of some of Portman’s best and worst films. Yes, of course all the films for which Portman received Oscar nominations (the aforementioned ‘Black Swan,’ as well as ‘Closer’ and ‘Jackie’) are included on the list of her best films, but there are also some surprises. For instance, there’s a film she only produced but didn’t star in, and a documentary where she simply appeared as herself. And just in case you thought we forgot about ‘Star Wars,’ think again. Portman’s turn as Padmé Amidala actually found itself in both the best and worst categories. In all, you can almost bet this curated selection will be introducing you, or, at the very least, reintroducing you to some long-forgotten films as well. Some of these are real gems, to be sure. So without further ado, click on to discover Natalie Portman’s best and worst movies.
