“Nobody knows anything,” runs the screenwriter William Goldman’s famous maxim about success in Hollywood. But you have to imagine that somebody, somewhere must have had an inkling about this. Lionsgate’s remake of The Crow – the 1990s cult hit that made a posthumous icon of its star Brandon Lee – opened over the weekend to thunderous indifference. ...

Airlines Uncovered: Backstage at Qatar Airways Operations

A rare behind-the-scenes airline operation at Qatar Airways Operation Center (QROC) to see how the crew reports and prepares for their flight. A team of professionals performs flight watch and makes critical decisions to ensure smooth operation of the airline. At 6am in the early morning, it is full of action at Qatar Airways Operation Center (QROC). Thousands of Qatar Airways pilots and cabin crew depart from here for their flights. All Qatar Airways crew checked in here at the building before their flight. I went behind the scenes to see how the crew got briefed before operating their flight. The pilot will meet their flying partner at the pilot briefing area. The cabin crew will meet their team member at the designated briefing room and go through the flight details. A grooming check is also conducted during the briefing. Then, I joined the crew on the crew bus out to the aircraft on the ramp. There were about 100 departures in the busy morning hours at Hamad International Airport. I filmed many of the departures before going back to the Qatar Airways Operation Center. I visited the Integrated Operation Control Center (IOCC) where a team of professionals performed flight watch and made critical decisions to ensure the smooth operation of the airline. The supervisor on duty shared about the weather issue and possible flight disruptions. The commercial team looked after re-booking and re-accommodating affected passengers. The maintenance team deals with “Aircraft On Ground” (AOG) issues. I was given a rare behind-the-scenes on airline operations.

Recap: 'The Old Man' Swaps Mystery For Family Drama In Its Season 2 Premiere

The brilliant first season of The Old Man was a slowly unfurling collection of secrets and mysteries, with occasional bursts of brutal violence. Not having all the answers is what kept you going. But since most of those answers were provided in the first seven episodes, Season 2 has to work differently, and its two-part premiere – Episode 1, “VIII”, and Episode 2, “IX”, this show not being one for fancy titles – lays out a characterful...

Taskmaster, Channel 4, review: why wasn’t this wonderfully stupid show up for an NTA?

The nation has spoken, and its favourite comedy is Mrs Brown’s Boys. Even the BBC’s Head of Comedy couldn’t bring himself to say he found it funny, when asked recently, but it was named Best Comedy at the National Television Awards, which are decided by public vote. Far funnier, though, is Taskmaster (Channel 4). Even though this wasn’t a vintage e...

The Penguin, review: Colin Farrell is a majestically fishy villain in gloomy Batman spinoff

Superheroes have been on a bright and bouncy trajectory ever since the rise of the Marvel Universe. But Matt Reeves’s The Batman pushed against that trend by returning to the dingy noir roots of Gotham City’s most famous crime-fighter. The 2022 film, starring former vampire heartthrob Robert Pattinson as the rubber-eared vigilante, was a success an...
