7 STAR-STUDDED MOVIES WITH 0% ROTTEN TOMATOES SCORE

Tyler Perry’s latest movie has been a huge flop and received a 0% Rotten Tomatoes score, but it’s not the only star-studded movie to receive this bleak ranking.

Perry’s Divorce in The Black has been labelled the ‘worst ever’ Prime Video film with an excruciating low Rotten Tomatoes score.

From the Hollywood filmmaker and actor Perry, the feature-length is a thriller starring Meagan Good as Ava, who divorces her husband Dallas (Cory Hardrict) after he abandons their marriage.

This then gives Ava the chance to find a new love interest and move on but her ex turns abusive and begins to stalk her following their separation.

The cast and the trailer may have drawn in audiences, but many were disappointed after viewing the film.

Divorce in the Black was slammed as ‘dull’, with Andrew Lawrence from The Guardian claiming: ‘It’s easily [Perry’s] worst film to date.’

But no director is immune from a box-office flop, nor can actors know for sure if their movie will be slated by the critics – even if they are Hollywood royalty.

In fact, there are several star-studded movies that were total flops and also earned 0% on the movie rating site.

Here’s a breakdown of some of the films starring A-listers that were set to be major hits, but ended up being completely slated.

Staying Alive (1983)

Staying Alive is a 1983 American dance drama film and the sequel to Saturday Night Fever (1977). The film is directed by Sylvester Stallone and stars John Travolta as Tony Manero.

The movie follows Travolta’s character as he searches for a big dance break into Broadway, picking up the same character introduced in the original film.

The movie made $127 million at the box office against a budget of $22 million, but despite financial success, it was totally slammed.

‘This sequel to Saturday Night Fever is shockingly embarrassing and unnecessary, trading the original’s dramatic depth for a series of uninspired dance sequences,’ reads the critic’s consensus on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film is the oldest on the site to hold a 0% score – which is really an achievement in itself.

Folks! (1992)

Tom Selleck, Don Ameche, and Anne Jackson star in Folks! a 1992 American comedy-drama directed by Ted Kotcheff.

Selleck stars as a selfish young stockbroker who takes in his parents after their home burns down. The premise was wobbly to begin with but fans were disappointed by the messy and ageist script.

The shocking movie earned Selleck a Razzie nomination for worst actor and also earned just $6.1 million at the box office against a budget of $15 million.

The website’s critics’ consensus reads: ‘Don’t watch this alleged comedy looking for more than pained performances in support of ill-advised ageist jokes, because that’s all Folks! has to offer.’

Hard Kill (2020)

Hard Kill is a 2020 American action thriller film directed by Matt Eskandari, and starring Jesse Metcalfe, Bruce Willis, and WWE star Eva Marie.

The film follows a group of mercenaries hired by a CEO to retrieve his kidnapped daughter and a piece of technology.

The film earned just $111,523 at the box office and a review from The Guardian’s Mike McCahill called it a ‘mind-numbing actioner’ and added: ‘Skill, verve and wit [was] wholly absent from these painfully long 98 minutes.’

This was also one of Bruce Willis’ final films before he announced his aphasia diagnosis.

Look Who’s Talking Now! (1993)

Look Who’s Talking Now is a romantic comedy starring John Travolta and Kirstie Alley in key roles and Danny Devito and Diane Keaton as their dogs.

The film is the third in the franchise and follows the life of two lovers who sparked up a relationship after an affair in the first film and went on to have two children in the second, and two dogs in the final instalment.

The film was a commercial bomb with a budget of $22 million that made just $10.3 million at the box office.

The critics’ consensus for this film on Rotten Tomatoes reads simply: ‘Look Who’s Talking Now: Look away.’

Left Behind (2014)

Left Behind is a 2014 American Christian apocalyptic thriller film starring Nicolas Cage, Chad Michael Murray and Jordin Sparks.

The film follows the lives of people on a plane who try to navigate their way to landing safely after the rapture takes place and a huge portion of the population – including the pilot – disappears from the face of the earth.

The film was severely panned by critics but performed well at the box office with a budget of $16 million but made $27.4 million at the box office.

The critics’ consensus from Rotten Tomatoes reads: ‘Yea verily, like unto a plague of locusts, Left Behind hath begat a further scourge of devastation upon Nicolas Cage’s once-proud filmography.’

Stratton (2017)

The action-thriller film stars Dominic Cooper, Tom Felton, Gemma Chan, and Tyler Hoechlin.

The plot follows an MI6 agent and his team who attempt to stop a madman from unleashing stolen chemical weapons.

Rotten Tomatoes critics consensus reads: ‘Stratton’s action-thriller ambitions are roundly thwarted by a derivative story, misguided casting, and a low-budget feel underscored by unimpressive set pieces.’

A review from The Guardian’s Wendy Ide reads: ‘Less an action movie, more a direct breach of the Geneva conventions, Stratton is a wannabe Bond knock-off with water on the brain.’

A Thousand Words (2012)

The film A Thousand Words stars Kerry Washington, Eddie Murphy, Alison Janney, and Clark Duke is an American fantasy comedy-drama film which was released four years after it was filmed.

The film follows Jack (Murphy) a man whose life is tied to a tree – yep that’s the plot.

Jack’s cursed after he tries to swindle a client in a book deal. He realises he can’t harm the tree or he will be harmed and has to remain silent as the tree’s leaves die every time he talks.

The film was instead released direct-to-DVD in the UK in July 2012. It was considered a box office bomb after making just $22 million worldwide on a $40 million budget.
