WATCH THE BRILLIANT TRAILER FOR ROBERT PATTINSON AND ZENDAYA'S ROM-COM WITH "UNEXPECTED TURN"

The Drama, the upcoming rom-com starring Robert Pattinson and Zendaya, has released its first trailer, following a unique marketing campaign that saw the characters' engagement announced in a newspaper.

The film, from writer-director Kristoffer Borgli, sees Pattinson portray Charlie Thompson, the director of an art museum, whose upcoming wedding to bookstore clerk Emma Harwood (Zendaya) is put in jeopardy after an "unexpected turn", according to the official synopsis.

Little else is known about the movie, but the brilliant trailer (which you can watch above) gives a sense of the unease shared by the couple as they try to smile for an engagement photoshoot.

Scheduled for release in cinemas on 3 April 2026, the eagerly-awaited project has been shrouded in secrecy thus far, but US distributor A24 unveiled the poster yesterday via their social media channels.

"THE DRAMA. Formal invitation to follow," reads the caption on X, with the poster teasing that viewers are "cordially invited" to watch the film. The image also shows Pattinson and Zendaya's characters, with the latter displaying her engagement ring.

It was followed by an engagement notice in The Boston Globe ahead of the trailer arriving today. While it might seem like a rom-com on the surface, the fact that The Drama has been written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli, who previously made dark comedy-dramas Dream Scenario and Sick of Myself, suggests that it will be anything-but conventional.

While details on the plot have been in short supply, Pattinson recently recalled an incident during production in which he went "crazy" attempting to dissect a scene, with the actor sharing that he called his co-star for support.

"We had a scene together that was driving me crazy," recalled Pattinson. "I was desperately looking for its meaning, writing pages and pages of textual analysis. I ended up calling Zendaya the night before shooting the scene.

"I shared my doubts with her, I spoke for two hours, and after a while, very calmly, she made me understand that the line just said what it meant to say, that there was no hidden meaning. And there I was going crazy for three days."

In addition to Pattinson and Zendaya, the cast for The Drama includes Alana Haim, Hailey Gates and Mamoudou Athie. Ari Aster, who is known for Hereditary and Eddington, is serving as a producer.

The film won't be the only collaboration between the leading pair, with the duo both set to appear in Dune: Part Three. Pattinson is a new addition to the cast as he is rumoured to be playing the villainous Scytale, while Zendaya will reprise her role as Chani.

The Drama is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 3 April 2026, while Dune: Part Three is due to hit the big screen on 18 December 2026.
