NEW LORD OF THE RINGS MOVIE GETS A "DYNAMITE" UPDATE

The new The Lord of the Rings movie has received a fresh update.

Following the animated The War of the Rohirrim movie last year, Warner Bros Discovery is pushing ahead with more films in the franchise.

One of those is set to further tell the story of Gollum/Sméagol, apparently set between The Hobbit films and the main trilogy.

Speaking about the film, that will potentially be titled The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, Warner Bros Pictures co-chairmen/CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy told Deadline that things were moving along behind the scenes, and they are excited.

"We just had a dynamite check-in with [writer/producer] Philippa Boyens on Gollum, and I think we're about to get that script in May," Abdy said.

This lines up with what Andy Serkis, who is set to direct as well as reprising his split-personality roles, said back in February.

"We will be prepping later this year," he said. "Prep takes a good chunk of time, six or seven months, and then we will be shooting next year. So, it backs into that December 2027 release date."

These films could feature some familiar faces beyond just Serkis, as Ian McKellen has said that he'd love to return as Gandalf, who is reported to feature in at least one of the planned films.

Orlando Bloom has also said that he's very up for playing Legolas again as well, stating: "If Pete[r Jackson] says jump, I say, 'how high?' I mean, he started my whole career. I really don't know what [they are planning].

"I did speak to Andy [Serkis], and he did say they were thinking about how to do things."
