Emily In Paris star Lily Collins has remained attached as the lead role in the upcoming Polly Pocket movie despite director Lena Dunham's decision to exit the project. Following on the success of Greta Gerwig's Barbie, Mattel Studios previously made the announcement that another film about a beloved childhood toy was on the way, with Collins playing Polly herself.
Following Dunham's recent announcement that she was no longer helming the film, Deadline has now confirmed that Collins is still set to take on the lead, with her production company Case Study Films producing alongside Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine.
Screenwriters Jordan Weiss and Dan Brier are on board to pen the script, which is looking to follow on from the success of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling's 2023 movie Barbie, which made $1.44 billion worldwide and received eight Oscar nominations.
First launched back in 1989, Polly Pocket featured a miniature doll that came in a compact-shaped case which opened to reveal a playset or house for the tiny doll.
While not much is known about the upcoming Polly Pocket movie, Deadline previously reported that the film will focus on "a young girl and a pocket-sized woman who form a friendship".

Back in 2021 after her involvement in the movie was announced, Collins said in a statement: "I’m so excited to partner with this inspiring powerhouse of a team. Developing this project with Robbie, Lena, Mattel and MGM to reintroduce Polly in a fun, modern way has been such a treat.
"As a child who was obsessed with Polly Pocket, this is a real dream come true, and I can’t wait to bring these tiny toys to the big screen."

Meanwhile, Dunham recently told The New Yorker why she decided to exit the film, saying: "I'm not going to make the Polly Pocket movie. I wrote a script, and I was working on it for three years."
Praising Gerwig's Barbie, Dunham said the director made a film that "was perfectly and divinely Greta", adding: "I felt like, unless I can do it that way, I'm not going to do it. I don't think I have that in me. I feel like the next movie I make needs to feel like a movie that I absolutely have to make. No one but me could make it. And I did think other people could make Polly Pocket."
