Anne Hathaway's upcoming thriller has unveiled a striking trailer ahead of its release next spring. Mother Mary follows the twisted but intriguing romantic relationship between a pop star (Hathaway) and a visionary fashion designer (Michaela Coel).
In the trailer, which was posted on YouTube, the musician arrives at a dark and ominous property, made even more menacing by the thunderous storm outside. As she explains the reason for her visit to designer Sam, it's clear that there is a lot of history between the pair.
Hathaway's character tearfully reveals she needs a dress and "had nowhere else to go". Her request is met with indifference from Sam, though she quickly gets to work on the garment alongside her assistant Hilda (Hunter Schafer).
The trailer hints at a long-standing clash between the duo, with Sam confirming she hates the singer after being cut out of her life. "Is that what we're doing here? You're making me a hate dress?" the singer asks.
Things take a harrowing turn when Hathaway's character admits there's "something inside" her, and the pair decide to remove the hidden entity through seances and Ouija boards.

"It was a lot of fun and I think people are going to be mind-blown," she previously told IndieWire. "I was mind-blown."
As well as writing and directing the project, David Lowery will also serve as a producer. He will be joined by Toby Halbrooks, James M Johnston, Jeanie Igoe, Jonas Katzenstein, Maximilian Leo and Jonathan Saubach.
Meanwhile, the songs performed by Hathaway's character will be written and produced by Jack Antonoff and Charli XCX.
Mother Mary is scheduled to be released in cinemas during spring 2026, with an official date yet to be announced.
