ZENDAYA'S 'WEDDING INVITE' HAS LEFT FANS CONFUSED

Movie lovers were thrown into confusion after Zendaya and Robert Pattinson’s wedding-themed announcement on social media.

The Euphoria star, 29, shared an Instagram photo of herself in the lap of the Batman star, showing off a flashy engagement ring.

The text over the photo reads: ‘You are cordially invited to The Drama, written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli. Save the date, April 3’, with the caption joking that a ‘formal invitation [is] to follow’.

However, for fans not looking closely enough, the understated first look at the newly announced A24 movie featuring the two Hollywood stars as our leads did leave some doing a double-take.

Given Zendaya’s high-profile engagement to Spider-Man co-star Tom Holland, some thought it was a public invite to their actual wedding – and wondered why Robert was there rather than the man of the hour.

Further speculation was caused after The Boston Globe newspaper teased the forthcoming nuptials in the film within their publication.

‘Why I thought this was you and Tom’s wedding invitation for a second,’ itschristiangray wrote on Instagram.

‘I didn’t see that this was a movie and I got so confused I was like “that’s not Tom Holland”, but it’s ok,’ elyc2009 added.

On Wednesday afternoon, Zendaya followed up with the teaser trailer for the movie, with A24’s account also posting it alongside a caption which read: ‘Every wedding has some. The Drama, a new comedy from Kristoffer Borgli starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, opens in theaters April 3. Save the date.’

The stars’ characters have been revealed as Emma Harwood and Charlie Thompson. Emma is the daughter of a decorated military veteran.

She is a 2017 honors graduate of Boston University, where she earned a B.A. in English, and works in a fictional bookstore called Mission Books. Meanwhile, Charlie, formerly of Eaton college, has an Art History PHD and is director of the fictional Cambridge Art Museum.

The trailer opens on the nearly-wed couple at a photography studio about their impending special day.

‘What’s your favourite thing about Emma?’ the photographer asks, to which Charlie replies: ‘She’s beautiful, funny, and she has the best laugh’ while Emma says he ‘caring, understanding, open-minded’.

As we flash through snapshots of their happy relationship, however, things seem to take a darker turn with trouble on the horizon.

From the looks of it, we have no doubt it is going to be one of the buzziest movies of the year.

For the most part, the interview is being kept under wraps, with a simple synopsis reading: ‘Days before their wedding, a couple’s relationship is shaken when one partner discovers unsettling truths about the other.’

This marks the first project the pair will be on together, but not the last. Both have also been cast in Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey, an epic which will land in cinemas in July 2026, as well as Dune: Part Three in December.

Earlier this year, Pattinson said he went ‘crazy’ over a scene in The Drama, which Zendaya had to help him through.

‘We had a scene together that was driving me crazy,’ Pattinson told French magazine Premiere. ‘I was desperately looking for its meaning, writing pages and pages of textual analysis.

‘I ended up calling Zendaya the night before shooting the scene. I shared my doubts with her, I spoke for two hours, and after a while, very calmly, she made me understand that the line just said what it meant to say, that there was no hidden meaning.’

‘And there I was going crazy for three days’ he added.

As for Zendaya’s real-life engagement, the couple is maintaining their stance of keeping their private life away from the public spotlight, so not much is known about their wedding plans.

The Challengers’ star was first spotted wearing the ring at the Golden Globes in January, with various people in their lives, including Tom’s dad and Marvel co-star Jacob Batalon, confirming it over the months.

Then, in September, a clip from a panel at The Beverage Forum in April, Tom was heard correcting the interviewer who referred to Zendaya as his ‘girlfriend’ with a quickfire ‘fiancé’.

Whether real or fictional, we’re here for all Zendaya’s milestones, so, like the rest of the globe, we’ll be seated come April 2026.

The Drama will be released in US cinemas on April 3, 2025. A UK release date has yet to be announced.
