BEYOND PARADISE STAR SHARES ‘CONTROVERSIAL' PART OF FILMING BBC SPIN-OFF

Beyond Paradise is in full swing as BBC viewers have watched Death in Paradise stars DI Humphrey Goodman (played by Kris Marshall) and Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) continue their romance six years after swapping the Caribbean for the Devon countryside. Although Jamie Bamber, who plays Archie Hughes in the series, revealed the part of filming in the South West that was somewhat controversial.

Based in the fictional Devonshire town of Shipton Abbot, Beyond Paradise follows Humphrey and Martha's new venture since leaving the sunny island of Saint Marie.

As DI Goodman joined the local police, Martha is following her own dream of running a cafe which she called the Ten Mile Kitchen.

Although her ex-fiancé Archie is helping her financially and the business owner made it clear he wanted to woo back Martha after he tried to steal a kiss from her in the latest episode.

Despite the love triangle brewing, viewers get to enjoy the gorgeous backdrop of Devon's cobbled streets, roaring countryside and quaint seaside towns.

However, when speaking to Express.co.uk, actor Bamber confessed a large proportion of the Death in Paradise spin-off is shot in Cornwall, which proved controversial with some local residents.

He confessed: "On evenings when we were going out and having a meal, my wife was working on something on the North Shore at that time as well so we were together for a bit of it.

"What you get when you're working on something like that is everyone knows your whole business.

"Everyone knows where the film crew are going to be tomorrow, where it was yesterday and whose farm we were parked in, so you become part of the community very quickly.

"The only controversy is that we are definitely filming for Devon but we were largely in Cornwall.

"So the Cornish may feel a bit aggrieved that we've hijacked their amazing townscapes and fishing villages, appropriated them and turned them into Devon.

"So, that was a bit controversial sometimes later on in the pub in the evenings."

His character in the spin-off could cause disruption in Humphrey and Martha's relationship as he made a move on her recently.

Telling her it's clear she still feels something between them, BBC viewers saw Martha clam up and beg him not to do this before slapping him when he tried to kiss her.

Speaking about the potential love triangle in the series, Jamie defended Archie, commenting on him not being a bad guy in the scenario.

Jamie said: "Obviously Humphrey and Martha aren't doing great, they're going through a very difficult change of scenery.

"They're trying to have a family, that's not working and human beings unravel at those moments.

"I don't think Archie's a bad guy for- not proposing an alternative solution, but for being there."

A synopsis for the upcoming episode reads: "Reeling from Martha's decision, Humphrey focuses his attention on an inexplicable crime.

"A house has been burgled and all forensic evidence points to one suspect only. The only problem is that this suspect was locked up by Kelby in the station's police cell.

"With the arrival of the suspect's hard-nosed lawyer, the team is under pressure to get results but with Humphrey distracted, it falls to Esther to take the lead on this investigation and crack the case.

"Meanwhile, despite her mother's protestations, Martha remains firm, however painful it might be."

Beyond Paradise continues Fridays on BBC One from 8pm.
