BEYOND PARADISE TEASES UNEXPECTED MOMENT AS MYSTERY GUEST ARRIVES

Beyond Paradise fans have something to look forward to as the BBC confirms a Christmas special set in Shipton Abbot is on the horizon. The announcement follows Sally Bretton's recent comments about a co-star's departure.

The third series of the beloved spin-off concluded earlier this year, featuring a budding romance between Archie (Jamie Bamber) and Esther (Zahra Ahmadi).

Meanwhile, the relationship between Martha (Sally Bretton) and Humphrey (Kris Marshall) remained as strong as ever.

BBC audiences have been championing Martha and Humphrey's romance since series five of Death in Paradise, following them as they departed Saint Marie to build a new life together in the UK.

Speaking about the relationship between Martha and Humphrey, who both have something special coming this Christmas, Sally explained why she thinks viewers are so invested in their partnership, reports the Express.

She revealed: "I think because it's a real love match. They are both kind-hearted by nature, and they genuinely want the best for each other. As a couple, they enjoy each other's company and have so much fun.

"It's been a hard road for them, and they're finally in a happy spot. I can't wait for viewers to see their relationship develop in the next series."

Before the next series arrives, fans will see the couple celebrating the festive season in the Christmas episode, with Martha planning a surprise involving Anne, Zoe, and a mystery guest. When quizzed about her ability to keep secrets, Sally confidently stated: "Oh no, I'm good at keeping secrets. If someone entrusts me with one, then I'm like a vault."

Actress Barbara Flynn also hinted at the surprise guest, suggesting that viewers are in for a 'happy' surprise.

Discussing her own knack for secrecy, Barbara said: "I do try not to give the game away! Secrets come in all shapes and sizes, and the smaller ones are easier to keep.

"I haven't had much practice lately, but as actors we're used to holding things back, both in scenes and interviews. It's lovely to keep a secret, especially when it's a happy one."

The synopsis for the upcoming Christmas episode reveals: "When Esther discovers a man on the steps of the Shipton Abbott police station with no memory, holding a photo of Humphrey, the team gets to work to uncover who the mysterious man is while balancing a flurry of festive cases in the Beyond Paradise Christmas Special.

"At the same time, with the help of Anne, Zoe and a special guest, Martha races to pull off her secret plan while Kelby tries to help a mystery man trapped inside his snowman costume. But with an influx of unexpected visitors, a slew of holiday crimes to crack, and a heartwarming reunion on the line, can the team juggle it all and still be ready for a life-changing reveal?"

The Beyond Paradise Christmas special is set to air on 21st December at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
