CRESSIDA COWPER ALMOST HAD AN ALTERNATIVE BRIDGERTON ENDING IN SEASON 3

*Spoilers alert*

For those who have binged season three of Bridgerton multiple times already, (hey, no judgment - haven't we all?) you'll know that Jessica Madsen's character, Cressida Cowper, was banished off into the sunset never to be seen again. Or so we thought...

During the latest series, Cressida made waves again by falsely claiming to be Lady Whistledown. The episodes also showed her attempting to blackmail the newly engaged Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington, aka our favourite Regency-era couple, Polin.

Due to her meddling and scheming, viewers saw her exiled from high-society London and subsequently sent off in a carriage to live with her spinster aunt in Wales.

However, Jessica has recently revealed that viewers may not have seen the last of Cressida. Rather, her character has the potential to make a comeback at some point in the future. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the 32-year-old admitted that she filmed an alternate ending for the show, and noted that even she didn't know where Cressida was going.

"We did shoot a different ending. I don't know whether she is going to her aunt's because we actually don't see her aunt in the carriage," Jessica shared, adding: "So, it could be that she's off somewhere by herself."

The actor then said that in the first ending they filmed, "Lady Cowper actually came to save her, and got in the carriage with her and they left together."

"I had a caged bird in my hair with a little door and Lady Cowper had the key," she continued.

Additionally, showrunner Jess Brownell backed up Jessica's claims that Cressida's whereabouts are unknown. Explaining Cressida's story is definitely unfinished, she said: "We shot an alternate ending where her mother gets in the carriage at the end and actually chooses her daughter."

Jess added: "It was a really beautiful moment. But in the edit, Shonda [Rhimes] and I talked about the fact that it felt like an ending for Cressida. It felt like it wrapped up her story and we intentionally wanted to leave it so that we can tell a bit more story with Cressida next season."

OK, the suspense is now real.

Bridgerton season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
