HOLLYOAKS CASTS DAUGHTER OF BROOKSIDE LEGEND IN CROSSOVER - AND THERE'S A BONKERS CONNECTION

Hollyoaks will be introducing the daughter of legendary Brookside character Jacqui Dixon during its special crossover episode with the soap.

Jacqui was played by Alex Fletcher for 13 years, before the series was cancelled in 2003. The actor then joined Hollyoaks in 2010 has been playing landlady Diane Hutchinson ever since.

The Brookside crossover, which airs next Wednesday (22 October), will be part of Hollyoaks' 30th anniversary celebrations and feature the arrival of new character Esme, who is revealed to be Jacqui's child.

The fun-loving party girl will be played by Yasmin Davies, who is actually Fletcher's real-life daughter.

Esme will first appear in the crossover before making her way over to spin-off Hollyoaks Later where she meets Frankie Osborne, Dillon Ray, Lucas Hay and Vicky Grant in a Liverpool nightclub.

The newcomer's presence creates a lasting effect on the youngsters, with Frankie's life particularly impacted. Will she turn out to be a friend or a foe?

"I've absolutely loved being a part of the Brookside and Laters episodes," said Davies. "There has been such a nostalgic energy on set, and I'm really looking forward to seeing it all come together to celebrate 30 years of Hollyoaks."

Meanwhile, the special episode will see the return of some familiar faces from Brookside Close, including The Royle Family stars Sue Johnston and Ricky Tomlinson, who will be reprising their roles as Sheila and Bobby Grant.

Michael Starke (Thomas 'Sinbad' Sweeney), Paul Usher (Barry Grant), John McArdle (Billy Corkhill), Philip Olivier (Timothy 'Tinhead' O'Leary) and Suzanne Collins (Nikki Shadwick) will also be making an appearance.

Hollyoaks Later will air on Wednesday, 22 October at 10.05pm on E4. Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
