An ITV star has broken his silence after the BBC cancelled a £30 million reboot after one series. Survivor premiered in 2023 and saw 18 people compete in a series of challenges on a desert island. Hosted by comedian Joel Dommett, players were flown to the Dominican Republic and split into two teams. The series tasked contestants with outwitting each other and voting others out to win a cash prize of £100,000. It aired during a primetime Saturday night slot on BBC One, and the show reportedly faced a crisis after the first episode, as it only attracted an average of 2.6 million viewers.
Speaking exclusively to Express Online, Joel Dommett has had his say after the show was axed. Last year, there were reports that Survivor was facing cancellation. He said: "I feel ok about it! It was so fun to film, and I'll remember it forever. I have had my share of shows coming and going, and I just try to keep things busy and fun."

Joel told Metro last year that he hoped that Survivor would return for another season. He commented at the time: "Fingers crossed... there's a lot of stuff that we would do slightly differently. Like with every first series, it's hard, so I think a second series would be amazing. Everyone seems to really love it, so I'm excited that - hopefully - [we get to] do another one."
Express Online has previously reached out to the BBC for comment.
Joel is also the host of ITV's The Masked Singer, which recently added Maya Jama to the panel. Speaking about Maya, Joel remarked: "Maya was a great addition! Really leans into the weirdness and is so fun. We have lots of themed episodes and her wardrobe looks incredible!"
Touching on Davina McCall, who recently underwent surgery for a brain tumour, he commented: "Davina has been on a really incredible journey this year. She is loving life more than ever due to her operation and I couldn't be happier for her! She really is amazing."
Joel has recently teamed up with Amazon for their Prime Big Deal Days, in which he hung out with the Voodoo Brass Band on the streets of London to help raise awareness for buyers to help make savings.
Touching on his involvement, Joel said: "I love a good surprise on stage or TV, so I couldn't wait to take that energy to the streets with the Voodoo Brass Band for Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days. What could bring more unexpected joy than that?!"
Speaking about the weirdest item he's ever ordered from Amazon Prime, Joel admitted: "Just looked though my orders list - Haggis is on there. That's pretty weird and I can't remember why!"
The 48-hour event comes to a close at midnight tonight, so you still have plenty of time to find Prime Day discounts on everything from air fryers to TVs and laptops.
"Prime Big Deal Days gives customers even more opportunities to save money, with hundreds of thousands of deals available," said John Boumphrey, UK Country Manager of Amazon.
"We work hard to offer great products at low prices for our customers throughout the year and have been delivering items to Prime members at our fastest ever delivery speeds. There is a lot to be excited about and a lot of value to find, with a few fun surprises to make customers feel like a big deal along the way."
Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days is now live until Wednesday 8th October 23:59, with savings of up to 40% across all categories including home, kitchen, electronics, toys, fashion, and beauty & self-care for Prime members.
