MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE SET FOR COMEBACK 17 YEARS AFTER HIT NOUGHTIES SHOW WAS CANCELLED

Popular noughties sitcom, Malcolm in the Middle, could be set to return to TV screens 17 years after it was cancelled. The show followed teenager Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) as he coped with being the middle child of a somewhat dysfunctional family.

Actor Bryan Cranston, who played Malcolm's dad Hal, and went on to star in Breaking Bad following the show's cancellation, has confirmed that a reboot of some description is currently in the works. Speaking to GQ about the series's return, Bryan said: "I’m curious about that family 20 years later. What happened to them? Where are they? What are the kids doing? They’re grown men now."

And earlier this year he opened up to NME about being approached by show creator Linwood Boomer about a potential reboot. Bryan told the outlet: "I can tell you that Linwood Boomer, the creator of Malcolm In The Middle, is interested in developing an idea for a rebooted series or a movie.

"He won’t do it unless there’s a really, really good idea though. He won’t just do it so that everyone makes a paycheck. And I’m not interested in that either."

Bryan's onscreen son Frankie has also previously expressed that he'd love to see what Malcolm and his family have been up to in the past 20 years. Last year he told Fox News Digital: "I would love to know what the family's up to.

"I know Bryan Cranston is really into the idea and he's kind of heading writing the script and getting everything rolling. So, there might be something. I would be down 100 percent. But I don't know - we'll see what happens."

The last episode of Malcolm in the Middle aired in May 2006, and saw Hal and his wife Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) left shocked after she discovered that she was pregnant with their sixth child. Meanwhile, the titular Malcolm had begun attending Ivy League school Harvard University, while also working part-time as a janitor.

Since reports of the show's return have begun spreading, fans have taken to social media to share their excitement. One wrote: "Literally made my day that Malcolm in the Middle may be coming back [fingers crossed emoji] Loved the show growing up [heart-eye emoji]."

"Anyway. Malcolm in the middle is potentially making a return. So life’s not all bad" added another.
