MATT TEBBUTT MORTIFIED OVER SATURDAY KITCHEN BLUNDER AS HE ADMITS 'I MESSED UP'

Presenter Greg James was invited onto the latest episode of Saturday Kitchen to discuss his Channel 4 series Rise and Fall. Matt Tebbutt summoned him to the kitchen counter to help him rustle up a Normandy apple tart, but it all went horribly wrong for the BBC One chef.

Greg was explaining the concept of the new series Rise and Fall which involves a group of people fighting for the position of power and £100,000.

The players begin as equals before they are divided up into grafters and rulers who have the power to eliminate people from the series.

The grafters have to undertake work shifts in order to add to the prize pot, but the rulers will be the only people to benefit from the money.

Some grafters are voted to rise the ranks and become rulers, whereas some rulers are sent down to the basement to become workers.

Greg told Matt: "[Rulers] have to keep the grafters happy, keep the workers happy.

"I guess over the last few years we have had to listen to a lot of rules, telling us to stay inside and telling us we are not allowed to have parties, that sort of thing.

"It's been really interesting seeing how these people govern essentially."

As Matt looked like he was listening to Greg, he realised he had totally messed up his apple tart recipe.

The chef admitted: "Yeah, I didn't hear a word of that because I have just messed up here!"

A concerned Greg asked what had happened, with Matt revealing: "What I should have done... Hang on, what I should have done...

"So imagine the tart shell doesn't have custard in it - imagine that situation.

"You're meant to put the apples in, put it in an oven and you bake it for about 30 minutes at 180C and then this looks like this."

Matt pulled out a version he had prepared earlier of the softened warm apples sitting at the bottom of the pastry dish.

He laughed: "That liquid thing goes into here and then that gets put back into the oven."

"I'm sorry this in confusing, play the music," he told an open-mouthed Greg.

The crew and guests burst into laughter as Matt stressed the correct recipe would be on the show's website.

The blunder didn't go unmissed by BBC One viewers who commented on Greg's appearance.

Caroline remarked: "So much fun to watch Matt and Greg in the kitchen, I'm laughing so much today."

Joanne quipped: "That was great to watch - another fab double act." (sic)

Saturday Kitchen continues next Saturday at 10am on BBC One.
