LATE ACTOR DONALD SUTHERLAND LEAVES BEHIND MILLION-DOLLAR PROPERTY PORTFOLIO

The late Hunger Games star, Donald Sutherland, left behind a property portfolio worth $3 million at the time of his passing.

Knewz.com has learned that his last known accommodation was a state-of-the-art, high-end apartment in Florida.

The flat is tucked away in a 44-storey South Beach apartment block. Unlike the average highrise apartment, this flat comes complete with a gourmet kitchen, marble floors, a semi-private elevator, and a 24-hour valet service with onsite security, per the celebrity gossip column, In Touch.

Sutherland's previous home was in Santa Monica, California, and was built in 1980. He is believed to have designed the building himself and lived there until 2012, according to estate agent, Realtor.com.

Two years later, the house was sold for $2,5 million. The property changed hands in 2016 again and this time for $3 million.

In January 2024, Realtor.com announced under its Celebrity Real Estate category that the property was on the market again—this time, for a whopping $3,67 million.

It went on to say that while the listing has been removed, the home is available as a rental for $12,500 per month, fully furnished.

“The home has unique architectural features, all designed by Sutherland,” the current owner was quoted under the condition of anonymity.

“The original built-in furniture is still intact and included in the sale or lease,” they said and went on to note that there were “extensive security items still in place to keep the paparazzi from peering into the home.”

The three-bedroom two-bathroom townhouse is noted to be mere feet from the Santa Monica Beach with “unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean.”

The article reported that the “modest” 1,484-square-foot accommodation has a spacious feel due to its arched ceilings and tall windows.

It also has a gas fireplace with sliding doors on either side along with a built-in bookshelf and a sea-facing desk.

“Sutherland was clearly inspired by traditional Craftsman design when choosing the wooden finishes for the home. Millwork can be seen throughout the interior—in the molding, wall panels, built-in furniture, and cabinetry, all done in a rich, honey-toned wood,” Realtor.com observed.

The purportedly “humble” abode is noted to have luxurious trimmings too:

“The home is outfitted with luxurious amenities, including a dual shower and steam room in the primary suite, Thermador and Miele appliances in the kitchen, and designer lighting throughout,” the listing elaborated.

According to the current owner, no alterations have been made to the house aside from the washer and dryer.

Sutherland passed away on June 20, 2024, at the age of 88 after what was said to be a long illness.

His career as an actor spanned decades and started when he made appearances in West End productions in the 1960s.

Some of the most illustrious screenplays he has appeared in include but are not limited to The Dirty Dozen, MASH, Klute, Animal House, Ordinary People, Pride & Prejudice, and The Hunger Games.
