THE CLIFTON COMMUNITY 'PUTTING SMILES ON FACES' WITH INCREDIBLE ENGLAND DISPLAY FOR THE EUROS

It's been a summer of preparation, hard work and expectation. With excitement and trepidation in equal measure as Gareth Southgate's men wear the nation's hearts on their sleeves in search of silverware at the Euros.

The stage is well and truly set in Germany and some 1,300km away in Clifton where residents of Pinewood Gardens have been putting 'a smile on people's faces' with an incredible show of passion and pride.

Dubbed the "most patriotic" street in the city for the previous Euros in 2021 - pushed back a year due to the pandemic - people on the small residential road have gone to great lengths once again in support of The Three Lions.

Since last Sunday, June 9, neighbours have been working hard on their displays, with more than 1,000m of bunting stretched across about 25 houses. It was hoped the decorations would be finished on Friday, June 14, in time for the tournament opener: hosts German versus Scotland in Munich (8pm KO).

The real excitement for the Pinewood Gardens natives gets underway on Sunday (June 16), for England's Group C opener against Serbia (8pm KO). On the decorations, groundworker Charlie Brown said: "It's all for the Euros. We have done it before in 2021 which was the last Euros and we have done it for years, it brings the community together. It's nice to put a smile on people's faces.

"There's over half a mile of bunting, about 1,000m worth. We were working on it until 10 O'clock last night." The 27-year-old says the street has a strong community spirit and the decorations are a way for everyone to come together during the tournament.

"The street has been doing things like this for a number of years. It's a very close community, more like a family and everyone looks out for each other," he said.

"I am very proud of where I come from, very proud to be English, a massive football fan myself, I follow England home and away, and it's all about putting a smile on people's faces."
