ALL THE SOUTHPORT AIR SHOW CHANGES AFTER HUGE QUEUES AND TRAFFIC CHAOS

Southport Air Show has introduced several key changes to ensure a smooth experience for guests.

The family event returns to Southport on Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14. The show will see The Red Arrows and Typhoon aircraft, among others, take to the skies across both days.

While there will be lots to enjoy in the air, there’s also a full programme of activities on the ground including flight simulators, static aircraft and military vehicles to explore.

Families turn out in their thousands every year to watch the sky painted red, white and blue thanks to the flying displays. People are already eagerly awaiting this year's show, including ECHO reader Maureen Mount who called the event "absolutely brilliant".

This year's show is shaping up to be another thrilling day on the coast, with the programme featuring RAF Tutor, Rich Goodwin Pitts, Rolls Royce Spitfire, Wingwalkers and plenty more.

But organisers have introduced a number of changes after last year's event encountered a number of problems, including the Red Arrows cancellation due to poor weather, traffic issues and long queues. We have listed all of the changes below.

Traffic

Changes include an additional car park that will accommodate the parking spaces that have been lost from closing the beach parking. Southport Air Show said there will also be better signage and increased staff numbers to manage the traffic.

Entrances

There will be more staff running the entrances and the organisers have introduced queuing systems. Southport Air Show said the layouts have also been changed to ensure a smooth and efficient entry.

Flying displays

Last year, visitors were disappointed as the Red Arrows' display was cancelled when conditions were described as "unsuitable" for close formation display flying. Southport organisers said the Scottish Air Show took place on the same weekend and some of the flying displays were shared between the two events. This included the Red Arrows.

This year, they say the show has more control over the display timings. The Red Arrows will appear on both days, and the display timings will be more suitable to give visitors time to arrive. They will also be flying even closer to the crowds this year.

Children under 16 are free to attend but must be accompanied by a general admission ticket holder (£12.90) or a group ticket holder (10 persons, £118.30). Additional tickets for car parking and programmes are also available here.

The Southport Airshow runs from 10am until 7pm on both days. A full programme of events, planes and activities will be announced soon.
