AMERICANS STUNNED AFTER REALISING CLEVER REASON BEHIND THE BEATLES' UNIQUE SPELLING

The Beatles arguably the most iconic band to have ever graced the global stage, formed in Liverpool in 1960, yet their legendary music continues to resonate with both young and old fans alike.

John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr - the celebrated Liverpudlian foursome - crafted a legacy that transcends the confines of Merseyside, sweeping across continents and carving their name into musical history. By 1964, The Fab Four were global sensations, earning the adulation of fans worldwide.

The Beatles not only conquered the UK but also took America by storm, landing stateside on February 7, 1964. But it seems our friends across the pond are only just now clocking onto the clever wordplay behind The Beatles' iconic spelling.

Although many Brits were aware of this - many new fans are discovering the clever reason due to TIkTok.

On the social media platform, Emily Leyes, a certified hypnotherapist, expressed her astonishment upon discovering that "just learned that the reason the Beatles are spelled with an A is because it's a music pun, like the word beat" Flabbergasted by her new awareness, she asked her followers: "Why didn't we all know this? Did you know this? I had 15 posters of The Beatles in my bedroom in high school, and I never knew this."

Turns out, Emilys lightbulb moment was a shared experience. Even a Scouser chimed in saying, "I'm from Liverpool, and this only just clicked for me," whilst another commented in disbelief: "Wait whaaat? ! And now it suddenly seems obvious," with a third individual confessing: "I actually didn't know that."

"Omg! I was today year's old when I found this out! Lol."

However, it appears that some die-hard Beatles fans were already privy to this information, with some even suggesting that most Brits are aware of this fact.

"Maybe it's an American thing because I'm pretty sure all English people know this," one fan commented, while another added: "All British people know this."

In terms of how they came up with the name The Beatles, John Lennon explained in the band's 1961 biography: "Why Beatles? Ugh, Beatles, how did the name arrive? So we will tell you. It came in a vision a man appeared on a flaming pie and said unto them ''From this day on you are Beatles with an 'A'. Thank you, mister man, they said, thanking him."

Another theory comes from Beatles biographer Hunter Davies, who claimed that the band's former press officer Derek Taylor told him the name originated from the film The Wild One. In the movie, a motorcycle gang is referred to as the Beetles.

"Stu Sutcliffe [the original bass guitarist of the group] saw this film, heard the remark, and came back and suggested it to John as the new name for their group. John said yeah, but we'll spell it Beatles, as we''re a beat group," Davies shared.
