EDINBURGH FILM FANS BRAVE RAIN SHOWERS TO ATTEND OPEN-AIR CINEMA EVENT IN CITY CENTRE

Edinburgh locals were spotted braving heavy rain showers on Friday as they headed down to the St Andrew Square cinema.

Film lovers were not put out by the wet weather as they got comfortable with their umbrellas and rain coats to enjoy the 6pm showing of Barbie on June 14.

Running from June 14 to June 16, the event is funded by Essential Edinburgh with LNER continuing their headline support. Alongside Barbie, New releases such as Migration, Trolls: Band Together, and Wonka will be shown throughout the weekend. Classics such as Pretty Woman, and The Matrix will be shown in the evenings.

In a picture shared with Edinburgh Live, many people attended the cinema on Friday despite the difficult weather conditions. We previously reported how Edinburgh Princes Street shoppers had been left wading across swamped pavements as heavy rain drenched the city on Friday.

Pictures taken on the thoroughfare show soaked pedestrians battling the inclement weather at around 2pm. Edinburgh Live understands many areas suffered from 'flash flooding' including Corstorphine and Leith.

The cinema showings are set to continue at St Andrew square until Sunday, June 16. The popular outdoor cinema is free and non-ticketed.

Everyone is encouraged to just turn up and join in. Those planning to attend can bring a picnic and chairs, but no glass and strictly no alcohol or anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be allowed.

The Square Cinema website states: "For the safety and comfort of all our guests, we may conduct security searches of clothing, bags and all other items on entry and exit to this event."

Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18.
