A wildly popular Essex pub is set to undergo a huge six-figure transformation, and it will be closed for a month while this is carried out. Local Marston’s pub, The Smuggler’s Cove, in Clacton-on-Sea, is set to undergo a major £325k refurbishment.
It temporarily closed its doors on February 17 and will reopen as ‘The Aviator’ on March 15 after the exciting transformation. This includes a complete refresh of the pub’s interior, as well as a tasty new menu.
As part of the revamp, the pub will also introduce three new job opportunities, including two back-of-house and one front-of-house role. Upon re-opening, Marston’s Two Door Pub: The Aviator, will open with two distinct areas: a vibrant locals' bar and a warm, welcoming family lounge, designed around families’ needs and a place for everyone to feel they belong.

A central partition will create these separate spaces, allowing guests to enjoy everything they love under one roof. Locals can enjoy a pint, a delicious meal, or celebrate special moments in the heart of their community.
For sports fans, the pub will boast 4K big screens showing Sky Sports and TNT, with guests able to catch all the latest fixtures while taking advantage of tempting offers like doubling up on selected spirits for just £2.00 extra or £15.49 for a bottle of prosecco on fizz Friday.
Located on the rural outskirts of Clacton-on-Sea, The Aviator is perfectly placed for guests to enjoy quality time with family and friends, whether stopping by for a meal or drink before or after a stroll around the nearby Meadow Gardens or staying the night in the hotel. The Aviator will bid farewell to its carvery menu and instead introduce an exciting new menu with highlights including the ultimate ribs and chicken platter, juicy burgers and classic pub favourites for both adults and children.
General Manager, Liam Byrne said: “The transformation reflects our commitment to providing a warm, welcoming space for the community to gather and enjoy great food, drinks, and company - whatever the occasion. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to experience the exciting changes we’ve made.
"Whether you’re stopping by for a pint, a family meal, or a special occasion, The Aviator will be the perfect place to watch this year’s biggest sporting events or spend quality time together.” With over 1,600 pubs and bars across England, Scotland, and Wales, Marston’s venues range from traditional locals and family-friendly pubs to timeless country settings, offering shared good times for everyone.
