EMINEM'S KID SISTER IN 8 MILE UNRECOGNISABLE AFTER 'FORTUNE' AND 'PAIN' SINCE MOVIE FAME

Aside from some school plays and singing in the choir, little Chloe Greenfield had no experience of life in the spotlight when at the tender age of six she auditioned for a role in what was to be an Academy Award winning movie.

As the angelic blonde haired younger sister of Eminem’s character, rapper Jimmy 'B-Rabbit' Smith, Chloe stole hearts starring alongside the hugely successful US artist and Kim Basinger, who played their mum.

Although Chloe admits she’ll always be grateful for the opportunity, things weren’t all plain sailing after she hit the big time and the actress, who is now 30, faced personal "struggles" as she attempted to navigate life in the real world.

It was after listening to local Hip-Hop and R&B station, 97.9 WJLB, that Chloe and her family first learned of the open casting call for an "Untitled Detroit Project". They went along to see what it was all about and were asked to take part in a screen test for the late director, Mali Finn.

Just days later Chloe’s mum took a call from Universal offering her little girl the part of Lily Smith in a film called 8 Mile. The 2002 flick follows an aspiring rapper trying to utilise his talent to escape the Detroit ghetto and features autobiographical elements of Eminem’s life. Despite the obvious opportunities the role potentially held for the family who were struggling financially, her protective mum took her time to consider the impact the opening may have.

Chloe, who has now bloomed into a beautiful young woman, shares pictures and updates on her life on her Instagram account. She has also revealed the back story to the huge decision her mother took when they were offered the role.

"When I booked 8 Mile, I had never auditioned for anything before and had 0 ties to the entertainment industry," she wrote. "In fact, my mom was at risk of losing our house and didn’t know how we were going to make it to next month.

"When she answered the call from Universal on the new Nokia flip phone that they had given us, I was offered the role of Lily Smith. My sceptical and protective mom made Universal Pictures wait 2 days for her to think it over, but once we accepted, our lives changed in an instant."

Chloe had turned seven by the time filming, which she describes as "fun" took place. Although they were rubbing shoulders with Hollywood A-listers, the family remained grounded.

"Filming was fun and local and we were truly too oblivious to the amazing opportunity and talent around us to be starstruck, so for months we filmed during the day and went home to normal life at night," she explained.

While it was undoubtedly a massive turning point in her young life, the road ahead wasn’t paved with gold and Chloe faced personal battles as she struggled to adapt. "When I think about times like this in my life, it can feel like a fairytale, a little unreal or like divine timing but I want to be transparent about the fact that no one's life path is linear," she revealed. "The best and worst times of my life have come and gone despite the opportunities of acting.

"For me, good fortune and unique experiences have coexisted alongside struggle, big problems, pain and the weirdness that comes along with living a 'normal' life with abnormal societal expectations. In the end, this film undoubtedly changed the course of my life, I’ll always be grateful for that," she added.

After 8 Mile, the young talent stayed in Detroit and commuted to Los Angeles for auditions. She worked on a few other films, including 21 Carbs, Literally, and Project 313. She also landed the lead role in Say Anything’s music video for Alive With the Glory of Love, worked with fashion brands and starred in commercials, including one for Comcast / Batman: The Dark Knight. Her biggest role was as Sarah in hit US medical drama ER. It was initially a guest part but she went on to become a series regular and starred in the following three seasons, including the series finale ...And In The End.

Chloe, whose X bio states she is an: "adventurer. Community Builder. Sales Pro. Wellness Expert. Gardener. Child Actor. Loading new identities…" also kept up her academic work alongside acting and developed a particular interest in photography, writing and environmental science. Her website stated that she was pursuing acting roles once again back in 2019.
