This film was set for greatness when it first launched onto our screens in 2011, with an A-list cast and huge Hollywood filmmakers behind it - and now you can watch it from the comfort of your own home.
With Hollywood film legends Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig at the heart of it, this huge western action gave film fans exactly what they wanted. Based on the 2006 graphic novel created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, the film is set in the southwest of the U.S. in a futuristic version of the 1870s.
A viewer took to Rotten Tomatoes to write: "Unique storyline, excellent acting, good special effects. I don't understand the poor reviews, but this movie is always moving and never boring. I mean, c'mon, Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford fighting aliens on horseback? What's not to love? It's just so good!"
Starring alongside the two leading men are actresses Olivia Wilde and Sam Rockwell, as well as actors Adam Beach and Paul Dano. The impressive cast certainly helped to launch the movie into the stratosphere, but it's the already known plotline, much loved by comic fans, that led viewers to it in the first place.
Cowboys & Aliens follows a gunslinger, played by Craig, who suffers from amnesia and arrives wounded in the middle of the desert with a mysterious alien device wrapped around his wrist. He heads to a nearby desolate town, where a preacher treats him, but while he's there, all hell breaks loose.

As extraterrestrial invaders begin to attack the town, sucking people right into the sky, he finds himself teaming up with the town's cattle baron, played by Ford. Fighting alongside them is a mysterious woman named Ella, played by Wilde, as the new band of misfits uncover secrets about his unusual past to help figure out the aliens' unknown agenda.
A viewer claims: "Awesome movie. Gave me brief vibes of the Knights of Cydonia music video by Muse, as well as the classic movie with Yul Brenner, Westworld. Cowboys, aliens, laser guns - the only things missing are ninjas and dinosaurs."
Meanwhile, someone else shared: "It's Indiana Jones, Star Wars, James Bond, Alien, Predator, The Frisco Kid, and District 9 wrapped up into a single film, and amazingly, it works! Not the best you'll ever see, but a very entertaining sci-fi/western romp with several unexpected twists and turns."
Despite what viewers say, the film was a major box office failure, underperforming in the U.S., earning $174.8 million on a $163 million budget. Although critics alike praised the film's acting and special effects, it just didn't seem to have the blockbuster boom they had anticipated.
Some viewers have pointed out these flaws, with one stating: "I can't see 160 million dollars in this. I understand the cast and the CGI, but 160 million is too much. The characters are flat... the CGI is good, and Harrison Ford gives one of his best performances in recent times."
To see what all the fuss is about, you can watch the western thriller Cowboys & Aliens on Film4 tonight at 6.45pm.
