GUY RITCHIE'S ACTION-PACKED SHERLOCK HOLMES MOVIES GET A NEW UK STREAMING HOME

Guy Ritchie's beloved Sherlock Holmes films have a new UK streaming home.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's iconic detective has been adapted numerous times, from Benedict Cumberbatch's acclaimed TV series to the early days of cinema in the Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce-starring Sherlock films from 1939 to 1946.

Released in 2009, Ritchie put his spin on Sherlock Holmes in his big-screen adaptation, starring Robert Downey Jr. as the titular hero.

It was followed by a sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, in 2011, and both films are now available to stream on Amazon's Prime Video.

Ritchie's first Sherlock Holmes film follows the detective in 1890 alongside his companion Dr. John Watson (Jude Law) investigating the crimes of Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong), an illusionist who seems to have risen from the dead.

It became a box office hit, earning a Golden Globe for Iron Man star Downey Jr. and two Academy Award nominations.

A Game of Shadows drew inspiration from several Conan Doyle short stories, including The Final Problem and The Adventure of the Empty House.

Downey Jr. and Law reprised their roles as Holmes and Watson as the detectives travelled across Europe with Romani fortune teller Madame Simza (Noomi Rapace) to foil the plot of master criminal Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris) to instigate a major European conflict.

A third film is reportedly in the works with Dexter Fletcher set to direct, while Ritchie is creating TV series Young Sherlock for Prime Video.

Picture This star Hero Fiennes Tiffin is set to star as Sherlock in the show, which will follow the origin story of the detective based on Andy Lane’s young adult book series Young Sherlock Holmes.

Colin Firth is also set to star alongside Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes and Natascha McElhone.

Deadline reports that the series will follow a 19-year-old Holmes who embarks on his first case, investigating a murder mystery at Oxford University which leads to him uncovering a global conspiracy.
