Kate Winslet has admitted she hid her worries about fatigue and budgets during her directorial debut for her son's new movie Goodbye June.
The actress, 50, has gone behind the camera for the first time as she made her directorial debut for the Netflix family drama.
Kate's son Joe Anders, 21, wrote the screenplay for the film, which will land on the streaming platform this Friday.
While it was a major shakeup for Kate, placing her outside her comfort zone, she admitted she hid any worries she had from her co-stars including Helen Mirren, particularly her fatigue.
She candidly said to Grazia magazine: 'The hardest part was leaving any concerns I had at the door so that the actors never ever felt that.
'It was up to me to set the tone every single day, even if I was knackered or worried about the budget.'
The Titanic actress also said she was conscious of her moving behind the camera as a female, compared to her male counterparts.
She explained: 'When male actors go into directing, people are like "Oh, interesting," whereas if it's a woman they're like "OK, come on, show us what you think you can do".'
Kate also stars in Goodbye June alongside Helen Mirren, Toni Collette, Timothy Spall and Andrea Riseborough.
Despite the pressures behind the screen, Kate said she would 'really, really love to direct again'.
On Monday, Kate made a rare red carpet with her son Joe as they stepped out together for the Goodbye June premiere in New York.
Kate looked effortlessly elegant in a black dress, while Joe rocked a checkered suit as they promoted the screen star's directorial debut, set for release on Friday, at the Whitby Hotel.
Joe, whose father is Bond director Sam Mendes, 60, adopted the stage name Anders after Kate and Sam divorced in 2010.
He will find it tough to beat the nepo baby allegations as he last year starred alongside his mother in WW2 film Lee.
Joe has also appeared in the Oscar-nominated war film 1917, which was directed by his father.
The actress is also mother to her daughter Mia, 24, and son Bear Blaze, 11.
Kate spoke about what it was like working with her son during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
She shared: 'When it came to the point of the screenplay being ready, I was going to produce it. I was going to play the character of Julia, and I knew that we were in a position to find a director.
'And I suddenly couldn't let it go. And I said to him, "look, I would love to direct it because when you give it to a director, it becomes theirs", which is exactly the right thing that should happen. But I didn't want that for him.
'I wanted him to remain a part of it. I wanted him to experience seeing this beautiful thing that he had created come to life.
'And he happens to be very, very smart about film, and having him there with me every day was just fantastic.'
