STEPHEN GRAHAM LANDS NEXT MOVIE ROLE IN "INSPIRATIONAL" REAL-LIFE DRAMA

Stephen Graham has had a busy 2025, appearing in A Thousand Blows, Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, and a little-known show called Adolescence. But he isn't slowing down – far from it in fact.

The prolific actor has been confirmed as one of the cast members for Ibelin, the real-life story of a Norwegian man named Mats Steen.

Steen suffered from degenerative muscle disease which severely limited his ability to participate in every day activities. Instead, he decided to pour most of his time and effort into his World of Warcraft character, the titular Ibelin.

He also kept a blog where he documented his life living with the condition, known as Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Following his passing, he became a legend in the game's community, and was honoured with a gravestone within the virtual realm by creators Blizzard.

As reported by Variety, Graham has been confirmed for the "inspirational" film, alongside Sir Anthony Hopkins, Charlie Plummer, Toni Collette, Isabela Merced, and Maisy Stella.

The Imitation Game's Morten Tyldum is directing the movie, which is based on a script from Ilaria Bernardini and Hossein Amini.

The film is set to explore both Steen's family, as well as the World of Warcraft players who became fans of Steen and his digital alter-ego.

Steen's story was previously immortalised in the Netflix documentary The Remarkable Life of Ibelin, which was released in October 2024.

The film used real-life text logs from Ibelin's guild, as well as character models and other assets from World of Warcraft, to tell its story

It was highly acclaimed, sitting at a near-perfect 97% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes from 60 critic reviews.

Meanwhile, Graham is set to continue to explore the themes included in Adolescence through the book Letters to Our Sons.

"After the huge impact of Adolescence, I realised there was a greater need for communication between fathers and sons," the actor said. "There is arguably an even bigger disconnect than ever before.

"I would love to help create more opportunity for fathers to reach out to their sons and carry on the conversation."
