THE BIKERIDERS REVIEW: JODIE COMER IS THE TRUE STAR IN GRIPPING CRIME DRAMA

Film Review: The Bikeriders (15)

Starring: Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, Tom Hardy

Director: Jeff Nichols Run Time: One hour, 56 minutes

A sleepy Midwestern town is occasionally interrupted by the loud engines and petrol fumes from a local biker club - but nobody seems to kick up a fuss because nobody causes any trouble.

But all of that will soon change when some young new faces join the club and start trouble.

Inspired by the works of photographer Danny Lyon who aimed to document the life of an American biker - The Bikeriders stars famous faces including Austin Butler, Tom Hardy and Jodie Comer.

Comer plays the role of Kathy, the wife who married into a bikers club, tying the knot with Benny (played by Butler), a quiet daredevil who always gets injured or in trouble.

Throughout the movie, Kathy is interviewed by Danny (played by Mike Faist) who tells stories about how the group alters over a 10-year timeframe.

You can’t help but grow to have a soft spot for Benny when he gets himself into dangerous situations, including when he speeds through seven traffic lights during a police chase - but runs out of petrol during the process.

If you have seen Comer in anything else she has been in such as Killing Eve or The End We Start From - you’ll know how incredibly talented this Scouse actor is.

She manages to transform herself into a highly convincing Midwestern American - with an impressive accent - and her scenes really make the movie what it is.

Hardy plays the loveable leader of the group - Johnny - who has a hard-looking exterior but is also a family man with two daughters.

The film is set up well so you get to know characters within the group before things take a turn for the worse with more and more crime creeping into the group.

It is a little slow to start with, but this was an enjoyable film that becomes very interesting and gripping.
