TOM CRUISE HAS FINALLY JOINED A STAR WARS MOVIE, BUT YOU WON'T GUESS EXACTLY HOW

Tom Cruise has finally joined the Star Wars universe in an unlikely, but still very cool role, as director Shawn Levy has revealed the unexpected part the star played.

Levy directs the upcoming Star Wars outing, Star Wars: Starfighter, featuring Ryan Gosling, Matt Smith, Flynn Gray, Mia Goth and Amy Adams, among others.

Cruise doesn't officially feature on the film's stacked cast, but was among the many famous faces visiting the set of Levy's film.

Levy revealed that Cruise doesn't appear in the movie, but has definitely left his mark on Starfighter as he shot a lightsaber fight sequence.

"Last week Steven Spielberg was here. And now Tom Cruise is wielding a camera, ruining his very nice shoes," Levy told The New York Times.

The outlet describes Cruise's arrival to the set of Starfighter in a grandiose fashion. The star arrived to set in a helicopter on a November morning as the crew blared the Mission: Impossible theme over the loudspeakers.

As per Levy, Cruise was more than happy to be involved in the action and soon found himself covered "up to his ankles in mud and pond water" as the duel unfolded.

It all started when Levy jokingly suggested Cruise pick up the camera for the fight, with the Mission: Impossible star immediately taking him up on his offer.

"He wore a look of great concentration as he stooped over a digital camera, trying to frame the perfect shot," Levy said.

"Now when you see the movie, you'll know that part of it was shot by Tom. I mean, how cool is that?"

While not much is known about Starfighter at present, Levy recently said that the film takes a similar approach to storytelling to Netflix hit show Stranger Things, which he co-directed and executive produced alongside the Duffer Brothers.

"If I've learned anything on Stranger Things, it's that you can get intimidated by the scale of franchise expectation. But you will lose your way if that's your focus," Levy told The Hollywood Reporter.

"I've learned the need to stay rooted in character, and themes and relationships on screen," he continued, adding that, like the show, Starfighter will have "spectacle and scale" but will also be "very much anchored in a human scale character-sized story".

Star Wars: Starfighter is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 28 May 2027.
