As the seasons change, telly enthusiasts are gearing up for an autumn chock-full of gripping TV.

One BBC drama that's flown under the radar, now back for its second series, has already got tongues wagging, and you can binge-watch every episode on iPlayer right this minute.

Dreaming Whilst Black is the brainchild of London-born star Adjani Salmon, who not only penned the script but also stars as the lead character in the show, which first hit our screens in summer 2023.

He plays Kwabena, a filmmaker striving to make his career dreams come true, all while trying to keep the lights on.

However, a chance encounter with Amy, a fellow film school graduate, inspires Kwabena to keep chasing his dreams.

Their shared experiences shed light on the harsh realities of the film industry, with Kwabena having to face up to the racial prejudices deeply rooted in the sector.

He often retreats into daydreams, which provide plenty of amusement throughout the series, reports the Mirror.

While the show is packed with well-crafted comedic moments, it also explores the failings of the film and television industry, particularly in terms of highlighting underrepresented creatives.

The programme also boasts some stellar guest appearances from Martina Laird, Roger Griffiths, Will Hislop, Alexander Owen, Jessica Hynes, and Peter Serafinowicz.

When the first series aired, it was met with a wave of positive reviews. One viewer took to X to say: "If you haven't caught Dreaming Whilst Black yet [...] what's keeping you? So fresh, so relevant. Bravo."
