No, you haven’t gotten Rick Rolled in the year 2025 — the man himself, Rick Astley, will be appearing on the Late Late Show this Friday.
The 80s hit, which had a new lease of life in the 2000s and 2010s as a result of the viral Internet prank, brought about a career renaissance for Rick — and, with him reaching 1billion streams on Spotify, Rick will be joining Patrick on the couch on Friday night (October 10).
As well as this, Rick will be treating us to a performance of one of his biggest hits — a 90s nostalgia classic that viewers won’t want to miss.
Also joining Patrick on Friday’s episode will be BAFTA winning actress Miriam Margoyles, and if her social media posts are anything to go by, the interview might get a little blue — with her joining Patrick for a no-holds-barred chat with Patrick about her extraordinary career, from working with Leonardo DiCaprio and Arnold Schwarzenegger to her most outrageous moments both on and off-screen.
As well as this, she’ll be discussing why she believes sex, religion and politics are exactly what we should be talking about, and why honesty is the best policy.
Award winning actor Damien Lewis — best known for roles including Billions, Homeland and Band of Brothers — will be making his Late Late debut, too, where he’ll chat to Patrick about his life on screen and his recent career pivot to music ahead of his shows in Ireland later this month. He’ll also be discussing his passion for performing, and what inspired the shift from screen to stage.
Ireland and Leinster rugby player Andrew Porter will also be heading to the Late Late on Friday to discuss his new book, Heart on My Sleeve. He’ll discuss losing his mother at a young age, his mental health struggles following her passing, as well as why he decided to share his deeply personal story.
He’ll also be discussing rugby, ahead of the Autumn Nations Series and next year’s 6 Nations (although we doubt this time he’ll be shaving his head).
Comedian Emma Doran also makes her return to the Late Late on Friday, where she’ll be discussing her takes on womanhood, pop culture and the madness of modern life ahead of her highly anticipated tour of the country.
And finally, Irish soprano Celine Byrne will chat about how her childhood, which involved footing turf and playing camogie, led to her duetting with some of the world’s biggest stars on the most famous stages, as well as her upcoming role in Madama Butterfly at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre in November.
The Late Late Show airs on RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player at 9.35pm on Friday, October 10.
