TOWIE STAR QUITS ITV2 SHOW AFTER FOUR YEARS AND SHARES REASON IN STATEMENT TO FANS

A long running star from The Only Way is Essex has announced they will be leaving the show after four years in a statement to fans.

Roman Hackett first joined the reality show back in 2021 at the age of 18, making him one of the youngest cast members at the time.

He has been at the centre of controversy during his TOWIE stint, especially with his on and off again relationship and dating history.

However, on Tuesday (December 9), he announced a huge career move as the star confirmed he will not be returning to the popular ITV series.

In a statement with fans, he confirmed he wanted to "focus on myself" as well as the next stage of his career. Taking to Instagram stories, Roman wrote: "Life update…. I’ve chosen to step away from TOWIE to focus on myself and the next stage of my career."

He added: "The journey’s been mad in the best way, and I appreciate every moment and everyone who’s been part of it and for everyone that’s supported me!

"Thank you again for the constant support. Big love always. Onwards and upwards."

Roman’s current girlfriend Matilda Draper joined Roman on The Only Way is Essex show earlier this year after finding fame on ITV2 hit dating show Love Island back in 2024.

The two have since appeared to go from strength to strength after they went official with their relationship last year, even launching their own podcast together and sharing sweet posts on their social media accounts.

She has not confirmed whether or not she will be leaving as well but speculation has been rife. Matilda has not yet responded on her own social media account.

The couple have been no stranger to sharing their affection on social media, making them one of the show's most talked about, and potentially favourite, pairings.

Roman made his feelings clear when, during a trip to Bali which Matilda was unable to attend, he said: "I’m out here without Matilda, which is upsetting, but I’m having fun with the boys."

When asked if he was more sad about Dan or Matilda, Roman replied: "I'm more sad about Matilda not being here. Sorry Dan! But my girl comes first."

The news comes just hours after The Only Way is Essex's Christmas special aired on December 8 with plenty of drama for viewers.
