SPENCER MATTHEWS EXPLAINS I'M A CELEBRITY ABSENCE AFTER VOGUE WILLIAMS' EXIT

Spencer Matthews has opened up about the heartache of being separated from his wife, Vogue Williams, during her time on I'm A Celebrity.

Vogue joined the jungle last month as a late addition alongside Tom Read Wilson, facing Ant and Dec's gruelling bushtucker trials with fellow celebs Martin Kemp, Lisa Riley, Shona McGarty and eventual winner Angry Ginge.

Vogue was the third star to be voted out of camp, but her husband wasn't there to greet her as she made her exit across the iconic bridge.

An insider previously told The Daily Mail that Spencer wouldn't be jetting off to Australia to reunite with Vogue due to his ambitious goal of completing seven full Ironman triathlons across seven continents in just 21 days.

The source explained, "The timing isn't ideal at all, but sometimes these things happen, and Vogue and Spencer's diaries just clash."

They added, "Of course, Spencer would want nothing more than to support Vogue in Australia and be there waiting for her when she leaves the jungle but both committed to their own projects, and unfortunately, the schedules overlap."

The couple's children remained in London, continuing their schooling and cheering on their parents from afar, reports the Irish Mirror.

After successfully completing his gruelling challenge, Spencer appeared on This Morning today (Tuesday 9 December) where he was presented with his Guinness World Record as he joined hosts Ben Shephard and Alison Hammond.

In addition to discussing his own gruelling experiences, Spencer also opened up about the joy of reuniting with his wife, the mother of their three children.

Calling her his "Queen", he said: "She's the best, I'm so proud of her."

When asked how he felt not being able to speak to her, Spencer replied: "I hated every second of it. Honestly, we talk a lot, we're always in touch. I'm so proud of her, that challenge she did, it was incredible.

"I'm picking her up from the airport today, I can't wait, honestly. It's hard to describe how much I miss her, I'm desperate to see her."

Following Vogue's exit from the jungle, Spencer shared a heartfelt tribute to his wife on social media.

He wrote: "Disappointed to hear that my gorgeous Vogue is out of I'm A Celeb but I'm so proud of the brave stint she did in there.

"She showed heart, courage and fearlessness in challenges and, as always, was such a positive and pragmatic figure in camp!

"I would have loved nothing more than to have been there for her when she came out and am sending so much love from Antarctica.

"On the positive side, we can now all FaceTime - I know she will have missed the kids like mad and I can't wait to hear her voice and for us to all be reunited next week."

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
