Jeremy Clarkson has unveiled a 24-year-old nurse as his new farmhand for the fourth series of Clarkson’s Farm.
The trailer for the new season left fans shocked as it showed Kaleb Cooper had left the show. Instead, Harriet Cowan, a full-time nurse and farmer, is the latest recruit to join the crew.
Clarkson, the former Top Gear presenter, said he had been left “in the lurch” by his former assistant’s departure following Cooper’s new-found fame.
Since the first episode aired in 2021, Cooper has amassed 2.7 million followers on Instagram, published a best-selling book and launched a live stage tour – The World According to Kaleb.
Clarkson bought the Diddly Squat Farm in 2008, but it was run by a villager until his retirement in 2019, after which the veteran broadcaster decided to see if he could run it himself.
Cooper, who worked for the farm’s previous manager before Clarkson took over, joined the presenter along for the ride.
Clarkson said of Cooper’s departure: “I want to make it plain that I am absolutely thrilled to bits for Kaleb.
“But, he has left me just a little bit in the lurch.”
The teaser clip showed how Cooper’s latest commitment had left Clarkson trudging through the pouring rain tending to his pigs by himself, until Cowan arrived to help.
She has big boots to fill, as Cooper became a fan favourite on the show thanks to his deadpan wit and bond with Clarkson, but she seems to have already made an impression.
In the trailer, she can be heard admitting to her new boss that she had never watched the programme.
Following a montage of eventful-looking clips from the upcoming series, Clarkson says of his newest recruit: “She’s brilliant.”
In another, she seems to already be building a rapport with him similar to that of Cooper, by suggesting she would trim Clarkson’s eyebrows.
She confirmed her involvement in the show by sharing the trailer on social media along with the caption: “Something exciting is coming on the 23rd May.”
Her Instagram account is full of posts of the farmer posing with tractors and explaining how she balances her two professions of farming and nursing.
She has already landed a brand deal with CountryMoos, a sock company specialising in cow designs.
Elsewhere, the trailer also features a cameo appearance by Richard Hammond, Clarkson’s former Top Gear and Grand Tour host.
Clarkson can then be seen putting the world to rights at his new pub’s opening, where he is told: “Power cut. Fans are dead, no gas…lunch service is a bust, basically.”
Clarkson decided to buy a pub after he was thwarted by West Oxfordshire district council in his attempts to open a more traditional restaurant on his farm.
The new series will also see Clarkson dealing with a range of livestock to manage – from a big bull and a very little pig, to high-tech goats and launch on Prime Video on May 23.
