GLASTONBURY IN CHAOS AS HUNDREDS SNEAK IN OVER FENCE FOR £50: 'IT WAS RIDICULOUSLY EASY'

Glastonbury Festival has seemingly descended into chaos due to hundreds of revellers sneaking in over the fence.

Consequently, stages have been closed to prevent overcrowding as fans panic over a potential crush.

This weekend, Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and Shania Twain have taken to the stage at Worthy Farm, performing all their hits to hundreds of thousands of revellers in Somerset.

However, after a Hunger Games-style battle to secure tickets for the beloved festival ensued last year, many have now taken matters into their own hands by sneaking in.

According to MailOnline, which obtained a video of people climbing over the high walls in the early hours before sprinting inside the festival, these fans paid just £50.

Official tickets for the annual music extravaganza are £350, with thousands left devastated year after year when they fail to secure them.

Glastonbury, which is hosting over 200,000 festival-goers this time, was also faced with a queue of those who didn’t get tickets lined up outside the walls while others scurried up ladders to get in.

After successfully intruding, one fan told the outlet: ‘It was ridiculously easy to get in.

‘I joined a Reddit group chat of about 300 people and everyone was sharing tips and contact details of people who could break you in.’

It’s believed that, while some people vaulted the festival’s high walls, others paid a fraction of the usual ticket price for a wristband to go through the main gates. 

One person added: ‘I just got the train down from London and met this girl at the station, paid her £50 in cash and she handed me the wristband.’ 

It’s reported that the wristbands were handed out at Castle Cary train station, and while they are legitimate, they actually belonged to other attendees inside the festival, but were secretly slipped off.

Speaking of problems causing carnage at Glasto this time around, it became clear at the start of the festival that crowds were not just loud and energetic, but dangerous.

High attendance for certain acts meant stages had to be shut, leaving fans fuming.

On Friday, Sugababes fans raged after massive crowds prevented them from seeing the popstars perform.

The trio performed at the West Holts stage, one of the bigger stages at the venue.

In 2022, the Sugababes performed at the Avalon stage, an even smaller venue that was also overcrowded because of the girl band’s popularity.

The same day, Charli XCX drew huge crowds to Levels for her DJ set.

Organisers were forced to close off after huge queues formed outside and maximum capacity was reached.

Later that night, Bicep was forced to pause a set to ask the crowd to step back, later halting the set.

Following the safety conerns, Bicep said in a statement: ‘Apologies to everyone that came to see our CHROMA AV DJ Set last night in Block 9.

‘Due to crowd safety concerns our set was paused. We’re sorry to anyone who was disappointed by the situation night, which was completely outside our control.

‘We hope to be able to come and play for you again soon.’

Addressing overcrowding in a statement to The Guardian, Glastonbury defended its ‘robust, dynamic crowd management plan’ which is in place to protect the safety of its crowds.

Bosses added that they have been ‘working closely with all of the relevant authorities, with measures put in place both in anticipation of and in response to crowd movements.’

‘Our plans include close monitoring and the ability to pause and stop artists where appropriate, as was the case for Bicep’s set at IICON, where a swift show-stop was managed effectively.

‘Major artists wanting to perform at smaller stages with limited capacities is part of the magic of Glastonbury. This can mean some fans will be disappointed, but our crowd management plan always puts safety first.’
